The lay of the land
Downtown is a flat grid squeezed between the river and Two Mile Hill. Main Street runs three blocks from the SS Klondike up to 3rd Avenue and has most of the coffee shops, gift stores, and outdoor gear. The waterfront trail runs the full length of downtown and connects to the Millennium Trail loop — 5 km flat, ideal for jetlag walking. The Yukon Transportation Museum and the McBride Museum bookend the cultural offerings.
Where to stay, eat, and drink
Best Western Gold Rush Inn, Coast High Country, and Edgewater are all within a 300-metre triangle. For food: Klondike Rib and Salmon (from June to September only, $25 mains, expect a queue), Antoinette's for Caribbean-Yukon fusion, and Baked Café for morning pastries. Drink at Woodcutter's Blanket for craft beer, and Yukon Brewing's taproom is a 5-minute drive north. Skip Main Street 'gold panning' souvenir shops — the good ones are on 2nd Avenue.
