Dawson City is the whole story
Nothing else in Yukon comes close to Dawson's density of preserved gold-rush history. Parks Canada runs walking tours of the old town ($10) that hit the Palace Grand Theatre, Robert Service's cabin, and Jack London's cabin. The Dawson City Museum ($8) is small but excellent, and the Dredge No. 4 tour ($20, 12 km out on Bonanza Creek Road) is the real deal — a working dredge in its original creek. Whitehorse and the trail
The SS Klondike sternwheeler ($8) in Whitehorse is worth an hour but doesn’t compare to Dawson. The MacBride Museum ($15) has strong gold-rush displays including Sam McGee's cabin. Better still: the White Pass and Yukon Route railway from Carcross or Skagway ($130+) traces the actual Chilkoot-alternative route stampeders took in 1898. For the Chilkoot Trail itself, book a Parks Canada permit — it's a 5-day thru-hike from Skagway to Bennett Lake.
